Family Martial Arts in Angleton, TX

Are you searching for ways to implement martial arts into your life and all its benefits? Then you’re going to love Brown’s Karate Studio! We’re a karate studio in Angleton, Texas, founded in 1980. You can learn martial arts with the help of professional educators with backgrounds in teaching and coaching.

Four Elements Of Kickboxing

As a Student-Centered program we teach only the skills, techniques and combinations that are easy-to-learn and effective.

Wind element in black background.
PENETRATE

Penetrate your opponent like the wind, be nimble and quick. Wind fighters come at you in powerful gusts or bursts ( blitz them fast), but as soon as they hit you, they are gone. Just like the wind  you can occasionally predict when a storm will arrive but you cannot predict when a gust will overwhelm you.

Fire element in black background.
ENGAGE

After you attack your opponent comes constant engagement with punches, strikes, kicks and controlling movements. Through our constant training we engage like a fire and be fierce, flickery, wild and unpredictable like the flames of fire.

Water element in black background.
CLEARING TECHNIQUE

After we engage our opponent with flurry of techniques we want to clear out. This means will use some type of technique whether a punch, kick, elbow or traditional martial arts technique to step back away from our assailant and close the door on them. Here we want to flow and be adaptable like water!

Stone element in black background.
CHANGE DISTANCE AND ALLIGNMENT

After clearing out and back we want to change our distance, stance, posture and alignment to our opponent . As we step back, we may change our direction to right or left. This keeps us strong and immovable and ready for another attack if it comes. Changing direction keeps us in solid, strong positioning like stone.

Karate Kids have the edge!

Our school is located upstairs in the Education Annex Building of the Angleton First United Methodist Church.

We are associated with the CBBA (Christian Black Belt Association) which originated out of the mid-western United States but has affiliate schools all over the lower 48.

Mr. Brown is a retired educator who relocated to Angleton with his bff and college sweetheart in the spring of 2015 to be close to his children and grandchildren.  Mr. B taught in public education in Indiana for 36 years as a middle school teacher, middle school and high school wrestling coach, high school Principal and Director of the Hancock County Alternative  Education program.  During the day he runs Independent Performance Fitness LLC, a local one-to-one private boutique fitness facility for “vibrant” boomers who want to live their best lives!

We are a Student-Centered School

Martial Arts has to and should be fun to learn in today’s modern world, especially for young children. Instead of requiring complex forms and skills, we focus on teaching basic skills so that we can spend time on the strategies and application of these skills.

Rather than require complex advanced skills and forms, we focus on advanced applications of the basic techniques we teach.

Our Empower Kickboxing curriculum changes monthly and the kids love it!

Little ones growing up to be confident teens and adults!

The tenets of TKD are: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control (self-discipline), Indomitable Spirit and Humility.  All of these are honorable qualities for anyone to have.

Other qualities include mental and physical toughness – things that our children need to have in our world today.    As children grow-up and grow-up in the arts, they develop more and more self-confidence that allows them to deal successfully with many different types of situations.

Martial arts can also help you develop social skills. This is because of the team environment. You’re working alongside people with the same goals as you, learning and growing together.

This is especially beneficial for children. In martial arts classes, we will also be working with the children to learn how to resolve conflicts, make new friends, and show compassion.

Being in a new environment can be scary for kids, but learning how to navigate that situation in a safe controlled environment is a great skill that will benefit them for life.
