Family Martial Arts in Angleton, TX

Are you searching for ways to implement martial arts into your life and all its benefits? Then you’re going to love Brown’s Karate Studio! We’re a karate studio in Angleton, Texas, founded in 1980. You can learn martial arts with the help of professional educators with backgrounds in teaching and coaching.

empower kickboxing, taekwondo, wrestling & takedowns, weapons & safe jiu jitsu

We offer a Student-Centered program where we only teach the skills, techniques and combinations that are easy to learn and effective.

Empower kickboxing

We follow a comprehensive Martial Arts Lifeskills program for kids, teens, and adults.  Our curriculum is technique-based (what works to get me out of trouble and keep me safe), not form-based and looks really pretty!

Tae kyon jitsu do

Tae Kyon Jitsu Do is a style of mixed martial arts created by Mr. Brown’s instructor, Soke Fred Walliser – 9th Dan.  It combines the best of three (3) different martial arts:  TaeKwonDo,  Nippon (Japanese) Shiho Karano Ryu, and Jukido (Japanese form of Aikido).

Coach Brown with Coach Dan Gable, Iowa Hawkeyes
Wrestling & Takedowns

Mr. Brown coached both Jr. High and High School wrestling up in Indiana for almost 20 years.  He was the first coach in his school corporation’s history to get his wrestlers to the IHSAA State Finals five years in a row!  Yes, he loves takedowns!  He still loves his Hawkeyes, but is really watching David Taylor and his Oklahoma State Cowboys!

Mr. Lance Reece, our Safe Jiu Jitsu Instructor
weapons & Safe Jiu Jitsu

Our students do weapons training, along with their other martial arts, to continue working on the brain-body connection.  Martial Arts is one of only a few athletic activities that works both sides of the body; hence both sides of the brain, which will definitely help our young people do better in school and keep us older kids moving, thinking and playing a lot longer than our moms and dads did!

Karate Kids have the edge!

Our school is located upstairs in the Education Annex Building of the bridge community church.

We are associated with the CBBA (Christian Black Belt Association) which originated out of the mid-western United States but has affiliate schools all over the lower 48.

Mr. Brown is a retired educator who relocated to Angleton with his bff and college sweetheart in the spring of 2015 to be close to his children and grandchildren.  Mr. B taught in public education in Indiana for 36 years as a middle school teacher, middle school and high school wrestling coach, high school Principal and Director of the Hancock County Alternative  Education program.  During the day he runs Independent Performance Fitness LLC, a local one-to-one private boutique fitness facility for “vibrant” boomers who want to live their best lives!

We are a Student-Centered School

Martial Arts has to and should be fun to learn in today’s modern world, especially for young children. Instead of requiring complex forms and skills, we focus on teaching basic skills so that we can spend time on the strategies and application of these skills.

Rather than require complex advanced skills and forms, we focus on advanced applications of the basic techniques we teach.

Our Empower Kickboxing curriculum changes monthly and the kids love it!

Advantages of TaeKwondo Training for your Child

Little ones growing up to be confident teens and adults!

The tenets of TKD are: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control (self-discipline), Indomitable Spirit and Humility.  All of these are honorable qualities for anyone to have.

Other qualities include mental and physical toughness – things that our children need to have in our world today.    As children grow-up and grow-up in the arts, they develop more and more self-confidence that allows them to deal successfully with many different types of situations.

Martial arts can also help you develop social skills. This is because of the team environment. You’re working alongside people with the same goals as you, learning and growing together.

This is especially beneficial for children. In martial arts classes, we will also be working with the children to learn how to resolve conflicts, make new friends, and show compassion.

Being in a new environment can be scary for kids, but learning how to navigate that situation in a safe controlled environment is a great skill that will benefit them for life.
